Driver Power State Failure Error (also called error 0x0000009F) often displays a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) and occurs almost in all the Windows OS, like Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP.
This Error indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. The error most probably is caused by the incompatibility between your PC’s power management and one or more installed drivers. It normally occurs during one of the following power state transitions:
- Going to or returning from Hibernate mode
- Going to or returning from Sleep mode
- Shutting down or starting computer
A message will appear on your screen that reads:

Fix Error #1: Uninstall Antivirus and Security programs
The most common driver which cause this error are antivirus software’s, so try to disable them and try to reboot your Windows. The first method to fix the “DRIVER STATE POWER FAILURE” issue, is to uninstall your Antivirus program from your system. This method has applied on a Windows 7 machine with AVAST antivirus installed with successful results.
Fix Error #2: Uninstall the drivers with a problem
- Start Windows in Safe Mode.
- On your keyboard, press the Windows Logo key and R at the same time to invoke a Run command.
- Type devmgmt.msc and click OK to open Device Manager.
- Expand the category and find the device with a yellow mark. You must see the problematic device driver.
- Once the problematic device driver is identified, right click and click Uninstall. When asked for confirmation, click Ok.
- Repeat the steps above to uninstall all drivers with a yellow mark.
- Once the driver is uninstalled restart your PC.
NOTE: If you enter safe mode in Windows Normal Mode, uncheck Safe boot after you uninstall the drivers. Then reboot your PC.
Fix Error #3: Upgrade the BIOS
You could find the BIOS information on your device, and then search for the BIOS updates on the manufacturer’s support website which provides the download.

Fix Error #4: Prevent Devices to Sleep when unused.
Two popular causes of this error were graphics drivers and Wi-Fi card drivers. It makes sense to update both but If a new driver doesn’t work, turn off power saving.
- On your keyboard, press the Windows Logo key and R at the same time to invoke a Run command.
- Type devmgmt.msc and click OK to open Device Manager.
- Click to expand Network Adapters.
- Right click at the Wireless Adapter and select Properties.
- At Power Management tab, uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” option.
- Perform the same action for the Bluetooth Adapter (if you have).
- Click OK and restart your computer.
Fix Error #5: System Restore
System Restore can be used to restore the previous version of your Windows OS. If you are facing serious issue Driver Power State Failure on Windows 10 then with using System Restore, you can fix many problems. You can roll the system back to a normal state with following steps:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke a Run command.
- Type sysdm.cpl in the run box and press Enter.
- Select System Protection tab and choose System Restore.
- Click Next and choose the desired System Restore point.
- Follow on screen instruction to complete system restore.
- Reboot your PC.
