IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Error – Windows

Many factors are responsible for this sound problem which includes incompatible, outdated or corrupt Sound/Audio drivers. IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver problem (0x8007001f) occurs when the sound is not working properly after upgrading your windows operating system.

Fix IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Error

Fix Error #1: Update IDT Audio CODEC Driver

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke a Run command.
  2. Type devmgmt.msc in the run box and press Enter to open Device Manager.
  3. Locate and expand Sound, video and game controllers category in the list and right-click on IDT High Definition Audio CODEC then select Enable (If already enabled then skip this step).
  4. If your audio device is already enabled then right-click on your Audio Device then select Update Driver Software.
  5. Now select “Search automatically for updated driver software” and let the process finish.
  6. If it wasn’t able to update your audio device, right click on your Audio Device and then again select Update Driver Software.
  7. This time select “Browse my computer for driver software“ and Next, select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
  8. Select High Definition Audio Device (Not IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) and click Next. An warning message might pop up, just click Yes button. Then the driver will be installed successfully.
  9. Let the process complete and then restart your PC.
  10. Alternatively, go to your manufacturer’s audio device website and download and install the latest drivers.

Fix Error #2: Enable Windows Sound Services

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke a Run command.
  2. Type services.msc in the run box and press Enter to open Services Manager.
  3. Now locate the following services:
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
    Plug and Play
  4. Make sure their Startup Type is set to Automatic and the services are Running, either way, restart all of them once again.  If Startup Type is not Automatic then double click the services and inside property window set them to Automatic.
  5. Restart your computer and check if the problem still persists.
